I didn't know whether to post this here or in the rumour mill But I heard a rumour that some of the committee, including the chairman, have been voted off and replaced by a well known local councillor and others. I believe this follows the decision not to go ahead with the nursery. I don't live on Leigh Park so it affects me not. Just heard the rumour from someone who does live there.

Hardly a rumour, Hawker posted a double sided A4 letter through the letter box about it.

Ah! So the rumour is true then. I am surprised that it hasn't been mentioned before considering the amount of members of this forum that actually live on Leigh Park. What exactly does the flyer from Russell Hawker actually say. Is the nursery going to be built?

One reason is that hawker doesn't put his leaflets into the letter boxes of the Guiness Trust houses although they make up a large part of Leigh Park. He only puts them into private houses letterboxes. A bit obvious why really but as someone with a grand child living in the area I'd like to know if the nursery which Jackie Reed fought hard for is going to be built or not.

Does it not say on the Leigh Park website? I will look.......
A nursery situated there would obviously be ideal....
I am confused. Is Russell all for the Nursery or not?

No the site is out of date. Hawker has no kids. Why would he want a nursery when the site could be used for a few more vacant shops?

The other day I met a man who I began conversing with... nice chap, he started telling me he lived in Fell Rd, then he told me the number... which confused me.... turns out he had just bought Russells house. I got to hear about his loose door handles and everything.

My sister lives in Leigh Park and showed me all the leaflets about the nursery Mr Hawker had circulated everywhere. looked like he was really pushing for the nursery to be built saying that there was strong demand and a survey he did proved everything. he wanted people to turn up to the recent annual general meeting of the community association to vote out the committee because they were doing everything wrong. I think he succeeded in getting the whole committee to stand down and get a new committee elected but he failed to get elected himself as people were ganging up on him in revenge for criticisng the committee. Westbury need a new nursery, the small childrens centre being built in eden vale will not have enough places as it will only just about cope with demand for kids feeding into the infants school.

Wouldn't be the first time but if hawker wants to keep what's going on his little secret by leaving out social housing (probably those most in need of a nursery) on his leaflet run then no one except him will ever know. I'll look at it all and see what's going on. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. I couldn't get to the meeting but understand there were a few fireworks let off.

I binned it, but IIRC the summary was "the committee was not doing what I wanted, I hounded them til they got sick of it all and resigned. I have found a bunch of my cronies to stand so I can have my way. I am great. Love and kisses, Hawker." Well, thats how I read it

It's not obvious to me. Why do you think he doesn't put his leaflets through the Guiness trust houses?

Guinness trust is the housing society who own the affordable houses in Hackney way. My sister has one. She got all of Mr Hawkers leaflets - well the ones I saw anyway.
