Dear Sir /Madam ,

I wonder if you feel able to subscribe to my government petition for Government-funded free off-peak rail travel in England for residents aged over 65 years.
It would avail pensioners of the free use of trains which would represent a marked saving in carbon-footprint and offer those without cars the chance of using (expensive ) rail services as well as free use of buses in many areas of the country. It would also help rail franchisees as they will fill excess capacity at off-peak times thus availing peak time travelers by rolling stock being in the correct place at the right time. Extra funds to franchisees will also allow them to modernize more quickly. You can access the petition on:        http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/FreeSeniorsRail

                         Sincerely,

Sent via email from Robert Lee.

Why not make the age 60 not 65 and then it would be brought in line with the Bus Passes. My friend in Birmingham is over 65 and he can travel on the buses and the metro and the trains for free, and its not just limited to the city as he can travel as far as Wolverhampton in one direction and Coventry in the other.
Good Luck with you petition Bob Thumb up!

When we lived in London our Pass allowed travel anywhere in the old GLC area this was as far as Watford to the north Dagenham in the east, Sutton in the south & Heathrow to the west, this was on all transport.
once when we went to Gatwick our travel was free most of the way, then the privilege rail pass was used the fare was 50p, from the City to Gatwick.
roll on the country wide bus pass.
