As you all may/may not be aware Westbury RFC have recently started coaching sessions for 6 year olds and up on Tag rugby.

Sessions take place on a Sunday morning from 10.30am to 12pm up at Leighton Sports Centre. The coaches there are fantastic and the kids have a wonderful time learning the basics of rugby before being thrust upon the proper game when they reach senior school.

The lads to date have had a couple of fixtures over at Melksham, and this weekend are going over to Trowbridge to play a triangular game against Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon mini's which should be fun.

If you of anyone with kids that would love to start please get in contact with me and I will give you more details. THanks- they need all the support they can get.

Sandy, you would not happen to fancy one of the instructors would ya? Roll Eyes Grin

Seriously, I have been talking about this with Morgan lately. It is a very friendly sociable event so I am told by both one of the instructors and some of the parents of kids who attend.

There is also a Tues afternoon event at the Juniors School but I need to gain more details on that.

My son plays for Trowbridge Under 7's and we are looking forward to the local matches this Sunday  Thumb up!

I think Rugby is great for kids. My son does both Football and Rugby and in my opinion there is no comparison.

The Football in Westbury is pretty much a shambles. No structure, little organisation, last minute advice of any games or cancellation, no facilities (apart from a portaloo that should be condemned)

The Rugby is fantastic! In Trowbridge (and I am sure in all the local clubs) the coaching team is SO enthusiastic and patient with kids as young as 4yrs who haven't got a clue. In last week's victory over Corsham, one of my son's team mates actually scored at the wrong end (again). They are taught discipline but also have a fantastic time. The club has a comprehensive website, with team news, fixture listings and match reports (with photos).

They have played tournaments and matches all over the South - including beating Bath Under 7's (!) - and always finish with a game of Bulldog for both or all teams. The kids are plastered in mud, exhausted and starving - so every club lays on hotdogs after the game.

My son just loves playing sport so we will continue supporting him in both these activities, but I hope he chooses the rugby route!

Yes the Westbury youth leaves a lot to be desired- Ive also heard that the coaching staff arent quite as good as they should be when it comes to being nice to the kids instead of actually shouting and bawling at them.

My little one has not really been into football, but I suppose thats a given being my husband plays rugby (for Trowbridge) so we are hoping he follows that route to, but needs to learn to concentrate rather than making mud balls  Cheesy.

Will see you there at Green Lane Sunday  Thumb up!

There were some great games on Sunday at John of Gaunt. The trowbridge web site has a little write up about the games: www.trowbridgerfc.co.uk/index - then click on minis - the report is listed under BOA 11/02/2007.
