That's right, Tuesday night the belt snapped on Ettie's alternator meaning no power assisted steering or brakes, and the battery wasn't recharging...... £250

Thursday morning, on my way to Bristol, loss of power when accelerating with a high whining noise (no, Ettie wasn't in the car). Stopped, called AA - diagnosed suspect turbo fan.....£££££ to be determined but probably not cheap.

What a lovely inexpensive christmas we're having this year.

 Undecided

£250 to replace an alternator belt Huh?
What car is that on? Even with a replacement battery that's excessive.

and I feel sorry for you Pete of course. Things can only get better.  Thumb up!

Got to be £50:00 hour labour charge = trip to spares store+return trip to get correct spanner+stop for tea break required by EU working practices + 4 hours 1 belt = £40:00 + £10:00 vat.

It's a T reg Rover 220.

1.5 hours labour @ £49 per hour

Belt was £18, belt tensionor (which apparently buckled) was £70, and the heater fan motor (which blew at the same time) was £44. All that plus VAT.

I'm not begrudging the cost, just the timing  Sad  and I've not even heard how much my turbo will cost  Cry
