Do Wiltshire Police still need a helicopter?

According to the Wiltshire Police web site, the helicopter has not been employed since July 2011!

Is that right? Then surely there must be good peoples money being wasted just keeping it maintained and ready for use. But I suppose if were called out tomorrow and saved a life then that money wouldn't have been wasted would it. A tricky one.

Probably true Jayday, as the Air Ambulance website shows them as very busy. The point I was (rather sarcastically) making was, if this helicopter is financed by public subscription (and I personally see NO problem with this) at least have the courtesy to let the public know what their money is contributing to!!

I would rather they were doing the job than writing about it. Where do you stop? Should Wilts Council tell me what the Parish Stewards are up to each day? In these times of financial belt tightening, employing someone to update a website is a luxury most public sector services can't afford.

Not all of it is.

I agree, but, the Wiltshire Police website having a link to "helicopter news" it makes sense to either keep it up to date, or delete the link and leave any news to the Air Ambulance website (although this will only tell us of the medical use, not the crimefighting benefits).

I agree, the Police should remove their bit and leave the charity to update it.
