Whilst I'm happy that this tyrant is gone, am I the only one who is just a little concerned that our leaders appear to support his summary execution?

I am even more disappointed that our leaders have not learned the lesson of Gaddafi's downfall. You cannot be a world leader if you treat your own people with contempt!!

Good grief, so you are comparing our government (believe me I'm far from a supporter) to the Gaddafi regime?   Huh

He should not have been murdered, he should have been put on trial to answer for his crimes. "Allegedly" executing him does nothing except show that those people who did this are just as brutal as Gaddafi himself.

Pete

P.S. Mike, It's amazing how lately you manage to twist everything into a criticism of our own government. Is there something you need to get off your chest?    Wink

He was always going to be killed.
I imagine he might have had many secrets to tell.

which mike are you asking mike hawkins or me ?

I don't know which of us Pete is asking, but, I will say that since Thatcher, IMO, every PM we have had has been more interested in projecting himself/herself as a world leader and has failed to act in the best interests of the people of the UK (and since Blair, the English in particular). How they work to govern the UK as a whole, for the benefit of the UK is how I judge them, for that is what I voted for them for!

And yes, I have been critical in my posts of the government, because, again, in my opinion, they are failing, as did the lot before them. I don't think that "twisting" is something I am guilty of!!

As regards his "execution" if that is what happened (and I must agree I think it highly likely), I also do not agree with it and would have liked to have seen him appear before a court. However, the people of Libya are the one's who have primarily suffered at his hands, and they are the one's who have decided his fate. To the victor the spoils!!

We must not judge these people by our standards = they may be right!!

As regards our leaders supporting his "execution", well perhaps his death is more convenient to them than possible disclosures of their links with him and his regime.

I agree Mike totally with what you have said. Ofcourse the british government have supported the rebellion in Libya and indeed helped in bombing the ruling class out of power , so are just guilty for the situation which has come around.
Ofcourse Gaddafi should have stood trial in a fair world , according to the twisted beliefs of the British givernment and what spoils they can get out of it Ie oil , Tony Blair was the prime minister who went to Libya more than 5 times at the regimes expense out there to do deals . But fair trials do not exist in reality when oil and money deals comes into the equation.
the current British government is a total disgrace they are not a democratic government and have shown over the last couple of days what they will do to stop true democracy taking place within parliament , by way of doing a 3 line whip against a vote on the EU .
