This has come about partly due to the cuts to the police budget. We have traditionally carried out tasks that are the responsibility of other organisations such as the council, NHS etc.

With staff numbers being reduced it means we can no longer do these tasks and carry out our core responsibilities.

this does make sense , of course the police have acted in matters that where not their responsibility before , but now the government cuts across the board are really taking their toll , it is only right now the police point people in the right direction to the agency responsible.

Is it just Wiltshire Police?
It does seem that some forces are more keen to help with "extra-ordinary matters" than others.
I know it was Feb this year and not the Wilts force but is escorting a repulsive skanky old orange slapper within the Police's remit? It should have been a "Canine unit" van at the very most.

A good example of an urban myth. Untaxed vehicles are dealt with by DVLA not the police, and has been the case for at least 23yrs. DVLA prosecute owners of untaxed cars, not the police.

You can report an untaxed car online at DirectGov http://goo.gl/EsA3A
