Now we live near to a Marina, I am wondering, who has ever lived on a barge? Or holidayed on one???
Having spoken to a man the other day about his boat which cost him about 30 grand, and he has since spent 35 grand doing it up, he now only has to pay just under eight quid per year costs......... oh and fuel.

His barge was aptly called The Great Escape.....

Anyone fancy it?Huh

I've always fancied a barge holiday, the idea really appeals to me but I know it's a bit pricey.
I love looking at the barges, they look really cozy, warm and peaceful.. one day maybe!

Went for a carvery at the Beef and Barge in B-o-A last weekend. I commented then about having a barge holiday on the Norfolk Broads. Maybe one day!

CC don't call them a barge in front of the owner! They are narrow boats.

I have been on about three or four holidays on narrow boats and found them very relaxing. Just make sure when you plan your journey you take into account the number of locks, as they require a bit of hard work especially if you do a flight of them.

Oooh JayDay Never realised that was an insult to a narrow boat owner!!    Why is that??

Yes the Locks do look hard work, surely the 26 in Devizes must be the maximum??

The boat company near us charge One Hundred odd pounds for a day boat hire, we were asking on
behalf of Dougs Nan......... May do it one day soon.

Because a narrow boat isn't a barge. They are two different types of vessel.

In one go possibly, but on some canals you can spend all day up and down locks.

OHHHHH That takes me back!!

When I was in the RAF and stationed at Benson, in the late 60s, we use to go down to Wallingford on a Friday afternoon and chat up the "Young ladies" on the holiday boats and offer to help them negotiate the locks up river, explaining that there were six or seven to go through before Oxford.

Spent many a pleasant weekend in the cabin!!!!
