in a 100 years will it really matter

« on: August 17, 2011, 16:29:33 »

The other forum has put this missive on but just in case.
A truly, genuine, courteous, kind and generous man felt he had to resign from the Town Council on Monday. It is not for me to give the reason as that will I am sure be published later.

Mike Hawkins did much for the town without seeking adoration or praise, he like many others went about his work in a totally professional manner and the people of Westbury should feel justly proud of the work he has put into the Town.

He will be sadly missed by the those who sit in the Chamber.

Thanks Dorian. It was not an easy decision. However, if we get more councillors like yourself, who recognise they are elected to the serve the town, all may not be lost!

mike Dorian was co-opted onto the council , not elected , by the people , is there many councillors who actually have been elected on the town council now ? or where simply elected without a opponent against them, so walked into their jobs.
I was elected properly in 2007 and beat the cons , liberals and the independents withquite a significant number of votes, that to me is having a full public mandate from the people to serve them in my term . but like yourself I doubt very much i would wish to carry on after my term has finished , remember I was elected in 2007 and when westury town council voted themselves in for a further 2 years without a public mandate , I with Sue Ezra was the only councillors to vote against the extra 2 years .

I don't think Dorian said that Mike Hawkins was elected Mike...and I'm not sure it matters as whether he was elected or co-opted he did a stirling job for Westbury  Thumb up!

Actually I think Badger said that Dorian was co-opted. Unless I'm reading it wrong. In any case a a councillor who is co-opted is elected by the current councillors anyway - I think Undecided

Yep! Thumb up!

Badger this comment implies that Mike claimed Dorian was elected. As far as I can see Mike has never made that claim, and to be honest it makes no difference to me if a councillor is elected or co-opted, it's what they do or don't do that matters to me.
