You and I would, in the circumstances, try. I don't believe he feels it necessary. He is a councillor, albeit not actually elected, and will remain so until May 2013. If he does stand again, make sure that there are enough candidates for an election to actually take place (so that he does does automatically become a councillor again), and remind the voters of his actions now!

Mike, I'm sorry.
My criticism was not aimed at you, but at Councillor Morland. Indeed, I recognise how much work councillors do on our behalf. It seems very wrong that one vote can undermine a project, and I would have thought that a majority vote should be sufficient. The cowardise of a committee member who does not voice his objections in debate but who then goes on to ambush the vote, is despicable.
You must all be disgusted.

Beatrice. I did not take your criticism as being aimed at me!  Thumb up!

And, yes, I am disgusted that Cllr. Morland took the action he did. He has jeopordised health services in Westbury, for the sake of a footpath that is rarely, if ever, used. Apparently a Westbury Ramblers member said he did not even know about the path.

Still, if Cllr. Morland thought this was more important than the health of the people, this will be his political epitaph!  Angry

Not quite true according to a quote from Russell Hawker on the dark side on July 7th............

"Ranting and raving about a councillor who has exercised his perfectly legal rights to object to a long diversion and suggest a short diversion (which is what Francis did .... both during the planning application and the footpath diversion application ... though none of us took any notice of him and his warning that he would object ....) "

but the questions remains that who was he representing when he objected??

it may well be his 'perfectly legal right' (to quote Hawker) but surely the greater good should be the number 1 priortity for any serving councillor?! if not he should consider running for parliment!!

whats worse is that he has run and hid from the people he is supposed to be representing instead of being 'man' enough to stand up for his actions!!

I would suggest perhaps people could ring him and ask him why ! his telephone number is in the public domain as a southwick Unitary councillor from the wiltshire council website
