The problem is quite simple. The agenda item was to replace the current mayoral chain because it is heavy and unwieldy. This had been also said by the Mayor. If the agenda item was "to replace the current chain as it has reached a stage where it is beyond reasonable and economic repair". Then OK nobody would have questioned it. Ill advised and badly worded comes to mind. Since this has come to light all the quotes of repair etc seem to have been made to justify the original agenda item. People quite rightly are asking questions and seeking the truth.

This flag pole Issue seems to now be on here aand the community forums , I was not behind this scheme although I was highly critical off the idiots who destroyed or stole the flags last summer within the press , This issue was not raised by me to errect new flagpoles or apply for any grants , and as afar as Iam aware I attended no meetings where any disscusin took place on this , If my memory serves me right the cllr who was behind this issue was cllr Bill Braid. If others where Involved I wasnt aware as I was on holiday when it was decided on.

I think the problem is even more simple that Charlie has thought. I have a stack of paper clips. Alena loves joining them together. Job done, a new chain. I will sell it for a few pounds

Thats the thing Charlie there where no Quotes for repairs to the current chain ? only for a new chain which raises serious doubts In my mind, so I have laid the motion for the 7th March for a subsequent report by an Independent Jeweller/ Goldsmith to ascertain whether the chain needs repairing and If It does then Quotes to be given for Inspection to the full Town Council . This then will reveal the should I say It the facts

Well unless i am being completely naive, i think, regardless of political bias that every member of the council, has, complete dedication to the town and its inhabitants. If i felt that not to be the case, i would stand down now

Dorian please stop refering to the town council , as I have explained before it is 2 councillors that have said the chain needs replacing , this again is not the town council saying this, this was backed by 3 other councillors so hardly the full town council as a united voice where we would debate and vote whether we released a statement of approval by the whole town council

Dear Badger. Please do not tell me what to say !!!!! When i refer to the Town Council in this missive i refer to members being honest and having the best interest of the townspeople of Westbury....OK Now i think this is getting a little bit silly now, so I'm, over and out

I agree with that Dorian! I took what you had said as a general point that no-one on the council would make up a fault with the chain to get a new one...would you agree with that MCM?

Dorian I haven't told you what or not to say ok ! I merely asked that refering to the town council Is one that can be construed by people that it is a whole town council speaking not Individuals, only . As for Soups answer I would rather wait until a valid Independent report and quote Be presented to the Full Town council regarding the current condition of the Current mayoral chain. There Is no hint that I am saying anyone would make something up , and would Indeed not accuse any councillor of doing so .

the original item was "unwieldy and heavy" now excuses about damage, potential cost are being put forward. Why oh why didn't the original agenda item state "the 50 year old chain is beyond local, reasonable and economic repair", no one would have argued against this. Now their is confusion and the public perception of cloak and daggers, smoke and mirrors and in some cases downright deceit. This item needs to be addressed. The council do not need 7 signatures to revisit because there has been a significant change, IE, heavy and unwieldy, versus, cost, damage and repair. Shambles to say the least. Whilst its a good idea CC not quite so elegant and majestic as the current chain.
