Hi

Without wanting to sound like a complete moaner I am keen to find out if anyone else has noticed a distinct increase in train noise throughout the night. Heavy goods trains seem to be travelling through the local main junctions after 11pm and before 5am - due to the weight and number of cars, they can take 15 minutes to clear a section of track.

I live 1/2 mile from Dilton Marsh Station and have really noticed this since the Spring. I heard that the stone quarries are increasing delivery to the Olympic village in London and that the new track recycling depot has seen increased traffic, but cannot confirm either of these. Network Rail have advised that there are legal restrictions for both traffic times and noise but have been unable to advise which rail operators are using the lines.

Has anyone else noticed the noise or shall I close the windows and revert to heavy duty earplugs?!  Undecided

thanks

Hi Accura,
I have noticed it more this year I think. I live pretty much right next to the railway line in the Marsh and have been woken up several times in recent months - the trains seem to be louder, possibly because they are going faster than they have in the past...

It's one of those things you get used to - I haven't been woken up for the past two weeks by it thankfully.

i dont think there are any legal restrictions on when they can run trains.

as they own the track i assume they can run trains when they want??
