Not dedicated to building the nursery that the vast majority of people living on Leigh Park said they wanted.

How about an adventure playground for the kids? There's plenty of space and it's cheap. Just an idea. I've seen these before and they are always very successful.

Hi all

Reference the current LPCA committee and the building of the nursery the LPCA committee are happy to continue with the nursery if it is viable, the survey taken in 2004 from the residents of the Leigh park Estate showed that there was a need for a nursery and if it is established that the current residents still want a nursery then plans will be put in motion to raise the funds to build one to the necessary size. Only the land has been allocated for a nursery not the building so before any funding is raised the smart thing to do is to establish that a nursery on the Leigh Park Estate is still
Viable.

I am glad to hear people like the Leigh Park Community Association Website. We are currently seeking residents on the estate to come forward to be part of the working party to work with the village halls adviser to get the proposed community centre up and running. If your are interested you need to contact one of the committee members listed on the website who will be able to give you all the information

MEMBERS of the Westbury Leigh community turned up in force at the Laverton recently asking for support to their proposal to close one end of the village to traffic.
The villagers attended the highways, planning and development meeting of Westbury Town Council on 20th August. They say that in recent years traffic has become a problem in Westbury Leigh, with traffic often speeding through the village, using it as a rat run.
They are hoping to close one end of the village to stop unnecessary traffic driving along the narrow road.
Nick Sherwood, speaking on behalf of the village association said, “I’m in favour of the proposed closure. A number of people see the closure of Westbury Leigh as a huge enhancement. I’m concerned about quality of life which has been adversely affected by traffic. I feel our community has been inappropriately abused.”
Nick Sherwood spoke of the danger of the traffic in the village. He added, “There is a lack of pavement in various areas in Westbury Leigh and some cars tend to drive unsafely through the village.”
He also highlighted the issues of HGVs, emergency service vehicles and other traffic using the village unnecessarily, and added that he did not mind which end of the village is closed to traffic.
Adrian Bass from Westbury Leigh added, “With the increased amount of traffic, there’s a serious accident waiting to happen.” He also suggested that a feasibility study be carried out to ascertain whether the closure is a realistic option.
The committee resolved to request that the highways authority consider closing the spur permanently and undertake necessary consultation.
Speaking after the meeting Adrian Bass said that the road through Westbury Leigh has always been a problem, but now that there is a relief road running through Leigh Park, something can be done about it.
He added, “I’m planning to contact the bus company and ask if it is possible for a bus to run through the village, come back through and then go through Leigh Park, as there are no bus stops there now.”
Town councillor Russell Hawker commented, “The idea of diverting bus routes through Leigh Park will definitely advantage the thousands of people in Leigh Park who currently are not served by the Frome/Dilton Marsh service into Westbury and vice versa.
“Closing the spur will improve the environment in Westbury Leigh by reducing traffic noise and danger. The village feel and identity will be enhanced. This is definitely a good thing for Westbury Leigh.”

RESIDENTS in Westbury Leigh calling for the closure of a road to stop boy racers speeding through the village will be asked to fill in a questionnaire giving their views on the proposal.
Villagers descended on a meeting of Westbury Town Council's highways, planning and development committee last month calling for the Spur road to be closed before there is a serious accident.

When the town council approached Wiltshire County Council's Highways Authority to ask for closure and a consultation to be carried out however, it was told closure of the road would not currently be considered.

The county council suggested as the town council is in favour of closing the road it needs to take responsibility for making the full case and carry out a survey of local residents.

Councillors discussed the situation at a meeting of the town council's highways, planning and development committee last night.

Cllr Russell Hawker said: "This (county council decision) is a disappointing result but it is not the end of the matter.

"I hope we can move it forward and we should be looking for ideas about how we can move it forward."

Cllr Ian Taylor, who is involved with the Westbury Leigh Residents' Association, said: "There is a meeting of the Westbury Leigh Residents' Association next week and I will draw members attention to the situation.

"I'm in favour of a questionnaire and survey and I will go through the process of encouraging them to go for a survey."
