PLANS for a major transformation of part of Westbury Leigh are poised to win support.

Proposals to build a community centre, doctor's surgery, day nursery, 70 houses, 23 apartments, car parking with open space will be debated on Thursday by West Wiltshire District Council's planning committee.

The scheme by Persimmon Homes Wessex is being recommended for approval but with 25 conditions attached including one that insists that all the public open space is completed before the 21st home is occupied.

The scheme has been met with mixed views from local people. Westbury Town Council raised no objection but Dilton Marsh Parish Council believes it is a "gross over development" and would have a detrimental impact on traffic.

A spokesman for the Leigh Park Community Association welcomed the application saying it would help "give the residents of Leigh Park their promised provisions" including the community centre.

And Westbury Churches Together, which aims to integrate a place for worship within the community centre plan, also backed the project.

Affordable housing would also be included in the application in the shape of 23 one and two-bed apartments.

It really amazes me (not) that Persimmon can press ahead with plans to build new houses, when they can't even finish off other parts of the Estate built over 4 years ago.  What is the LPCA doing about these problems?  Not a lot it seems to me.

Well, I think there has been and still is some confusion as the exact location of Leigh Park......   I always thought it should be classed as Westbury Leigh as that is close to where it is situated...... Roll Eyes Lips Sealed Smiley

CATSMUM,that is because these days most companies like Persimmon aremotivated by greed rather than perfection. Shame.

As Westbury Leigh School is in Leigh Park. Leigh Park must be in Westbury Leigh!!!

Problem solved....... Drink a beer

The school would be called Leigh Park school otherwise!

Lets not start this old argument again.

Leigh Park and Westbury Leigh are both in Westbury.

Leigh Park is not in Westbury Leigh

Westbury Leigh school is in Leigh Park

Hope that clears up any confusion Grin

Yes, in Bluffton.  Now who in their right mind would call a place 'Bluffton'? Smiley

Community centre gets the green light
By Helen Thomas
A NEW community centre in Leigh Park, Westbury, was given the go ahead last night.

West Wiltshire District Council's planning committee granted permission to the plans from Persimmon Homes Wessex.

The plans include a community centre, 71 homes, 23 apartments, public open space and land for a doctors' surgery and a day nursery.

advertisementCllr John Clegg said: "This is for much needed and long promised facilities within this estate. We have no planning reasons for objecting."

The committee voted in favour of the plans by 10 votes.
