A mother-of-five who plundered thousands of pounds from a pre-school group leaving it bankrupt has walked free from court. Claire Kirkham, 36, used the money as her own as she frittered away almost £10,000 on treats for herself over a two year period.
But after hearing that Kirkham had children aged from six months to 12 years old, a judge took ‘a merciful course’ and imposed a suspended sentence.
Lynne Henderson, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court on Friday that Kirkham became chairman of the Kingfisher Pre-School in Westbury in May 2006.
But within months she started to siphon cash from the charity, which runs the playgroup in Arundel Road. http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/latestheadlines/5074975.Mum_who_stole___10k_from_pre_school_escapes_jail_sentence/

If she were a bloke she would have been locked up. She's a common criminal and should be treated as such.

I wouldn't be surprised if the latest child was born deliberately to coincide with the court case, just shows what a calculating woman she is and yes she should have been imprisoned, she's nothing more than a common thief.

i dont have enough facts to comment on that but if the father of the same children were to do the same i bet he'd be locked up.

http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/inyourtown/trowbridgenews/5072002.Pupils_join_Trowbridge_police_for_a_community_walk/A mother of four children, is it right she escapes a jail sentence? I know for sure she will be made an outcast round here now, I feel sorry for the children as they will suffer as a result. How on earth did she manage to get away with it for so long? I do agree with the comments, had she been a male she would have been more harshly punished.

If all men (and women) are deemed to have equal personal rights then personal circumstances should make no difference to the discipline.

Yes I agree really. The woman fully knew what she was doing and how devious she was being (I see no mention of mental illness so assume she was fully aware of her actions)
Her life will be surely made a misery if she stayed local.

Lets hope so, she's not really getting any other punishment. Bring back the stocks.

I've said that before Yokel. We missed a trick when we redid the Market Place.
