father-of-two from Westbury has raised £1,000 in honour of his army colleagues by completing three marathons in the space of two days.

Kenneth Molyneux, 41, of Fell Road, Westbury completed the gruelling Pilgrim Challenge at the weekend, which sees competitors cover 66 miles along the North Downs, from Farnham to Martsham in Surrey.

Mr Moluyneux, who works in support of the 14 Regiment, Royal Artillery, based at Larkhill, spent four months preparing for the event, which he used to raise money for The Ammunition Technician Association.

The money will be given to families of soldiers who have been killed in service.

He said: “I think a £1,000 is pretty good, especially during a recession.

“Some of my colleagues have died at war so I wanted to do it for them.

“It was really tough terrain and running up and down steps and across sand was really challenging, but I would still recommend it to anyone.

“Most of the other runners had completed hundreds of marathons.

“I was just about fit enough to finish the race. It was horrendous and I ached all over by the end of it.’ Mr Molyneux, who lives with his wife Louisa and children James, 18 and Phillipa, 15, now plans to take part in The Terminator race in Pewsey later this month and the Isle of Wight Challenge in June.

He also has a plan to tackle the daunting Marathon Des Sables when he turns 50, which involves running 151 miles over the Sahara desert in Morocco, all in the space of six days.

He finished the Pilgrim Challenge in 44th place out of 97 entries.
