(And yes I know the schools aren't a babysitting service, but when this govt makes it affordable for both parents not needing to work, reduces school holiday time, or more available/affordable I will believe this). One of mine so cheeky lately I would drive thru floods to ensure School is attended, I am sure you know Ettie without me elaborating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just posted in another thread I am worried about missing work today, I wonder how tolerant my employer will be, I do not have anyone to hand to have the children for me in the event of such happenings, or illness etc

Talk about mixed messages.
S Wick listed as closed on BBC site.
Not listed on other local sites.
School website was not updated til about twenty min ago.
Rang school they said they are open at ten all being well.
Various texts from parents saying either open, closed or open at ten.

Living as I now do with a teacher I know what an agonising decision it is for headteachers to make. If you'd have seen/heard all the phone calls/texts flying to and fro L's school staff this morning (and Weds/Thurs last week) you'd appreciate it! Texts/calls starting at 6am and right through until 9am! Do they open at 9am? Do they delay till 10am? Should they finish early? Can enough staff get in to open? Can all the children get in (some are bused in and buses not running!)? How many children will turn up? Is the access to the village safe, even if main road ok? What is the state of the school grounds? How will staff living 20ish miles away get in? And many many more issues/questions!! Some people reckon teachers take an easy option to stay away and have a day off. Some teachers still work around 8-10 hours on snow days . By the way, L's school is open today but wasn't last Weds/Thurs. Re the snow : a fresh 3 inches in Warminster and 5 inches laying where last week's hadn't thawed.

2 quotes by me.... - Nature is wonderful, you just need the time to stop, look and listen. - Look up, you never know what you may see.

I appreciate the decision is not easy but there were mixed messages everywhere inc on the radio, on new sites and even the school site.
I am all for the children being off in such conditions if necessary but surely we deserve a decision before 9 am!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did get a decision before 9 I am thankful to say.
Took my son to work today. Luckily the boss is pretty good, and let him use an empty computer to play internet games, while I got on with some work.
There is suddenly a lot more to think about tho, taking stuff to keep him amused, warm non uniform clothing, taking squash as we only have tea/coffee at work, and sorting out food in case the sandwich man doesn't turn up. (which he didn't).

According to the BBC website, we're due for some heavy snowfall tomorrow starting around 12 noon.
