I work as a subcontractor a few days a month for quite a large organisation.

They have issued a requirement today, that by the 23rd October all of their staff and subcontractors have to prove to their line managers, that they have the right to work in the UK by providing them with a view of their passports, or their right to work document.

Thank you Baroness Scotland.

Although I agree with this in principle, this could help to raise unemployment figures.
I am one of the millions of legitimate residents of this country who does not hold a passport, and where on earth would i get a right to work permit?

looking through the paperwork I have been sent on this subject, regarding staff, It does say  A birth certificate of origins is ample should the staff not have a passport a NI number should surfice as well I would personally ask for a birth certificate and any other ID that person had to satisfy .But really it is just getting stupid now you know if someone is british or a citizen of the EU

I dont think its stupid at all - if you cant prove you are entitled to work then you shouldnt be working!
Its only a chip against your perceived freedom if you are swinging the proverbial lead.

it is stupid yokel especialy when your boss knows full well that you are native or a citizen of the EU.
however i do agree with checking immigrants rights to be able to work here , common sense should prevail

Yes, but its not about your boss knowing - thats making an assumption that your boss is legit.

This has been around for the last 3 or 4 years, at least it has with recruitment agencies anyway.
