Fifty years ago the M1 opened and our love-hate affair with service stations was born. But what do they tell us about Britain today?http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/article6802471.eceOn the way to my parents (near Ipswich) I stopped at South Mimms s/station. £1.60 to take out £10 in cash and coffee ar £2.50 cup! The toilets were clean though. On the way back I drove across country and near Swindon stopped at a Little Chef (didn't know they were still going). Toilets were flooded, service good but coffee and a pancake nearly £6. Rip off.
