Whatever will be will be. x

« on: July 19, 2009, 15:55:49 »

I had a rather cringing moment whilst driving from Trow into Westbury today.  I was in my Renault Laguna and all of  a sudden when approaching Hawkeridge a deafening alarm sounded, I pulled over into Heywood where for what must have been nearly an hour I deafened the village.

I tried switching the car on and off. Tried using the key in the lock.  The car was able to start and move.

In the end someone jumped over his fence claiming the noise was doing his head in, (try listening to it and try entertaining the three kids at the same time on the roadside Embarrassed)

He disconnected the battery, and we enjoyed some peace.

But then I had no option but to drive it back with the noise carrying on all the way home.

It was almost like a constant continual horn sounding, very loudly.

When I came back home my neighbour said he would have a look, but all of a sudden it stopped.

Anyone got any experience of this?

Ho dear.
sounds like a problem one of our neighbours had when we lived in Westbury.
this is not uncommon, is the alarm on the car made activate by a a button on your key?
curtain radio frequencies on the same channel can set off the alarm.
Could be a signal from the military exercises on the plain.
you were up fairly high along Hawkeridge, nothing to stop the signals.

Was just going around the corner on the approach to the bridge near Hawkeridge, so turned off pretty quick to Heywood.

Pressing the key fob etc had no effect, neither did removing the fuse for the horn.

It was a consistent loud noise, which started as I was driving along.  All very strange.

Never been so embarrassed as when I drove it back home, everyone looking  Undecided

Actually now you mention it I had been tuning in the radio minutes prior to going off but left in Radio4.

I just rang Semington Motors where the car was purchased and they are going to get the problem sorted.  I have to take the car to Southwick Motors.

Just pray that the alarm does not start up again as I put the key in  Embarrassed

cc, at the time when this occured, were you by any chance driving back thro that heavy outburst of rain we had?
We were driving back from Trowbridge at about that time, and that rain was quite heavy. Could have possibly been water thrown up and was causing a short.
