Just had all the bumph land on my door-step, to say I'm bitterly disappointed would be a massive understatement.

On the plus side the money spent so far on the enquiry has created a few jobs in itself

too many to list here, I have attached the decision letter. Is this the end then? will it ever be considered again?
Yes, this would appear to be the end, the decision can only be challenged on legal technicalities. Not sure what the County will do but, in my opinion, the eastern bypass is dead.

I would say pretty much dead in the water! certainley for this generation, on the other hand it is good news for those who campaigned against tearing through the beautiful wellhead valley, and bad news for those desperatley wanting some relief of the traffic thundering through our beautiful town well now the decision has been made we will have to digest this news today

I'm going to sticky this topic and lock the previous bypass thread. Apparantly 3TR announced it at around 10.00, here's a link to the Wiltshire Times article published about an hour ago... ... http://www.wiltshiretimes.co.uk/news/latestheadlines/4471592.__31m_Westbury_Bypass_scheme_thrown_out/

2 quotes by me.... - Nature is wonderful, you just need the time to stop, look and listen. - Look up, you never know what you may see.

Seems perfectly reasonable, having read it. Then again I was always on the fence (ok, so one day I'd be on one side, tother i'd jump over etc) so if it had been approved i'd think that would also be perfectly reasonable.
I did think a "Yes" was inevitable and felt we'd been shoehorned into it (rather aggressively by some), so, although I feel for those who really wanted it, it's refreshing to see any process such as this isnt merely a tick in a box.

I am very pleased of the news that Wellhead Valley will be saved...... Although I agree Westbury needs a by pass I am glad its not at the cost of a fantastic piece of Countryside.

Well, history set no precedent here, the result was a bit off the wall, but you can't deny it was a thriller, albeit bad news for those who wanted it, but a relief for those who thought it was dangerous.
