Walk for Wiltshire Air Ambulance

On the Wiltshire Fire & Rescue site there is information on a walk (6th & 7th June 2009) over 7 of the counties "White Horses" to raise funds for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance appeal. The Westbury White Horse is not included!!

I am prepared to walk the 5 west Wiltshire towns, starting at Warminster, Westbury, Bradford upon Avon, Melksham and Trowbridge to the Westbury White Horse. Would you be prepared to sponsor/join me on this day??

I am 62 years of age!! A few younger ones would be more than welcome (please arrange you own sponsorship).

I have looked at the distances for the five towns and also the use of safe routes (I want to raise money for the Air Ambulance, not use them). Also, I have to consider the possiblity of completion in one day without "cardiac arrest".

It would appear that safe routes are only their if the three towns of Bradford upon Avon, Trowbridge and Westbury (finish) are used.

Any thoughts??

I've not much idea about Melksham, but I'm sure there is/was a path between Westbury and Warminster along the edge of the escarpment.

We used to use it for the Matravers sponsored walk.  The Westbury end being alongside the quarry, and the Warminster end by the golf course.  Maybe Andy, CC or Topskills can remember more than me and fill in the rest....

I can remember walking that route, the most clear memory being the very deep/steep valley section.

We went up Grassy & turned right, after that it's vague - not walked that way for years.
