Saturday May 2nd is the set for Westbury’s first public event in the newly refurbished historic Market Place.

Following the formal opening of this much improved open space on Friday 20th March; Westbury Town Council has decided to mount an all-day French themed event in the Market Place on the May Bank Holiday weekend. The weekend of May 2/3rd coincides with the annual French Twinning celebrations and the town will welcome guests from Westbury’s twin town of Chateau du Loir who with their Westbury hosts will be taking part in a variety of activities and visits.

Will try and get Lauren to go along and practise her french on the stall holders.

We did this at the one in Trowbridge last year, and it was good for her and a bit of fun for the stall holders.

So what did you all think?

I wandered into town earlier this morning, and went into the Market Place to have a look.  I stopped to see the wines and the sweets, but the gathered crowds (made worse by the layout of the stalls) put me off for staying too long.

Still, I did bump into CC and girls who were on their way down and had a brief chat.  Other than that, I didn't see any of you!

I didn't get there till after 11am but it was still very busy. I had to wait round for a new batch of French Stick loaves and really enjoyed browsing round the stalls and meeting people. They were really lucky with the weather but I thought it was really good and hope it becomes a regular event. Well done to John Parker and the other organisers.

As a point, the Heritage Centre was really busy this morning as was the High Street so it seems to have attracted people into the town - a good thing with Cooper's closing tonight.

I think it was a great success, well done to John Parker (project manager) for arranging it.   It was so nice to see the Market Place being used for the purpose it was built for and so many people supporting it, I spoke to several people from out of town who thought it was great.   Although 1 chap who had his van towed away first thing this morning would not agree (shame he couldn't read the notices or take heed of the letters that were delivered to immediate residents of the Market Place).   It would be so nice to see events maybee once a month taking place there.  applause applause
