Thanks people

. I am ok, still feeling odd though (not looking forward to trying to sleep tonight) & with nothing to drive over the weekend.
The car was recovered at about midday and has been taken to the insurers 'compound' to be inspected. Amazingly it is nowhere near as bad as feared : scratches due to the hedge, a dent towards the nearside back bumper and pretty relieving to have the mechanic drive it onto the lorry.
More amazingly, someone must have been watching out for me, I had 'landed' literally inches beyond a sunken culvert type wall. Cannot remember the last few seconds of the incident though to be sure of movements.
Dave : I have pics on my phone of the ice/slush/mud and my car. So they're there if/when needed.
Yokel : yes indeed. Apparantly the water main leak was meant to be fixed by Wessex Water by Tuesday (3 March) and yes they turned up today to work on it

. The water had frozen overnight with air temperatures of around -2c (ground temperatures probably more like -4c or -5c) and some of it appeared to have been muddy slush which had frozen and that's what I lost control on. Then, at about 08.00, the council turned up & gritted it just as the sun was melting everything

!!
There was a sign out showing a snowflake, they must be out of 'ICE' signs

.
Also Yokel, no I wasn't going very fast. Probably 40mph - wish I'd have been doing 30mph but there we go. It was really annoying to see some people drive past, see my car, and shake their heads/smirk probably thinking
'some idiot driver' - which I'm not.
its just a car in a ditch on its side. very nicely parked though!
Cheers! I think
