Hi all,

I went out on the bike this morning to show everyone that Petsar is still in Westbury and out and about, after doing just over 6 miles I came back through Oldfield road to join the Roundabout and turn right in to Station Road so I stuck my right hand out to start turning then half way round I stuck my left hand out to straighten up as I did this the bike's wheels slide from under me and sent me flying. I had vehicles going across the roundabout behind me and cars to the side of me, luckily they where going slow (For a change). After a second or two I realised what had happened and managed to pick myself up with the bike and very shocked I moved on to the pavement out of the way of the vehicles.

I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the drivers that never stopped to help me, not one did and I was really shocked. My bike received minor damage as my panniers on the back took the full brunt of the force but my cycle jacket is ruined down one side. I cut my elbow up as well as hurting my shoulder and having a cut under my chin and on my other hand, I'm just glad that the cars at the back of me where not going faster or they would have gone over me.

I've decided now not to go out anymore on the bike this side of Christmas as its just not worth it anymore, although I'll still go out on a call out if I'm needed. Because they are building houses at the back of Hillmans yard in Oldfield road the roads are like ice with the dirt. If you do have a bike stop and walk on the pavement with it, don't rick it on the roundabout and always wear your helmet and gloves as it saved me.

Sorry for moaning but it just p****d me off that no one stopped to help me but luckily I wasn't far from home. Hope you all have a safe Christmas.
Take care.

Tony.

Hope you're ok Tony  Smiley .

There was also a minor accident near the railway bridge in Station Road (on the town side) around lunchtime because when I drove past at about 13.10 there were 4/5 cars parked up, 1 of which I could see was damaged, with people noting things / making calls.

Thanks all,

I'm just feeling sore now and a bit daft after lying on the tarmac, I'm just thankfull that I walked away from it. Don't think I'll be going on the bike for a while though, I'm starting to think that it was the heavy panniers on the bike that made me slide. Still feel a bit daft though. Embarrassed

Sorry to hear about your experience Tony, I agree that it is sad and annoying that people do not stop to help.

I am the other extreme.

I once turned around on the round about near Co Op to turn back to the Garage at Yarnbrook thinking the elderly man walking along the roadside was the owner of the haphazardly parked car further down the roadside.

I could not go home without turning rd to see if he was ok and if he wanted a lift.

I found him near the Hungry Horse.

He was most amused, he had not broken down at all, it was not his car, and he was merely walking home from work, hahahahaaha.

Best Wishes Tony.
