what the hell is happening in society  Sad i hope the police catch them and the harshest punishment is given, a firing squad would suffice

The problem is the harshest punishment nowadays would appear to be saying 'You're a very naughty boy'.  And then paying for councilling and holidays for them to get over the emotional trauma caused by the punishment.

I note with some amusement that someone wrote on the WT thread :

"Culprits?
Uneducated teens with a hammer and some grudge that defies logic?"

Phrased as a question but more of an assumption.  Statistically they may beright but factually their assumption is the sort fo thing that drives prejudice.

If it was caused by undeucated teens we have to ask ourselves what we, as a society, have done to create such an environment that results in this.   All this bombing and stuff going on in the middle east I believe is a waste of lives in a war we should not be part of.  This is my way of phrasing it.  Maybe soemone else feels the same but because they are so uneducated and disrespectful that their only way of voicing that is vandalism.

As I have said before- BOOT CAMP!

Do they have no respect for anyone alive or dead, the memorial was put there to remind us that if it was not for those people who gave their lives so that we could live ours is a travesty. Its a pity that we couldn't find who did this and then publicly flog them for all to see, to me its the same as desecrating a grave. I agree with topskills it is embarrassing to be British when this happens. Cry Cry

I’m not sure “embarrassed” is the right word.

I don’t find it embarrassing to be British when things like that happen at all.

A vandal, a hooligan, a thug, is a vandal, a hooligan, or a thug wherever you are.

Drive through the streets of Holland and you’ll see graffiti everywhere, Germany and Austria have their fascist hooligans, italy has its mafia ….  I can go on.

I don’t feel at all embarrassed to be British because of the vandalism – I feel proud to be British because of the millions of men and women who gave up their time, and in many cases, their lives, to give us the lives we have today.  I feel proud to be associated with these people, and with the millions who have given their support – in whatever way – and pay their respects.

As for the vandals – they aren’t any part of me or who I am any more than the BNP or anyone who watches Big Brother are, so while I think they should be seriously dealt with, I don’t feel embarrassed by them - for Britishness (and pride in whatever country you come from) is a spirit and something you LIVE.  These vandals are a different species - they arent British, they are scum.

So, how did you find your national service then, londoner?  Was it a good or bad experience for you?

If you think about it they probably wouldn't have the intelligence to read and pass the entry exam.

Not doing national service didnt do me any harm.   Nor millions of others.   Vandalism and thuggery existed during national service.

I dont think a broad brush approach (that would cost the country £billions) would solve the problem caused by less than 1% o0f the population!!!  On top of which forcing someone to fight in causes which do not relate to the country is contrary to civil rights.

As the last but one person who did National Service you should wait til the last one dies then write a book of your memoirs!!

IF THEY WANT TO DO THE CRIME THEN EXPECT THE PUNISHMENT FROM THEIR COMMUNITY MEMBERS, I FOR ONE AM FED UP AT BEING THE LOCAL TARGET FOR OUR AREA AND WOULD ENJOY GIVING BACK WHAT I HAVE RECIEVED IN THE LAST 6 MONTHS.
