and now LNER   A4 class TBA Bittern ( with the loco named after the class's designer Sir Nigel Gresley having used the northern triangle on December 3rd )

Warminster 1151
Westbury 1201 Arrive
Wesbury 1214 Depart

see original post for new times

LNER A4 Bittern ( same shape as Mallard ), now in early BR livery

1256 at Westbury, from Warminster direction towards Trowbridge ( downhill )

1827 at Westbury, from Trowbridge direction towards Warminster ( uphill )

If it stays this cold smoke and steam effects should be excellent, and that famous A4 chime whistle !

If you dont get to see it, listen out for it !

Westbury is a working station. Please observe the requests of the station staff, who I find to be very tolerant on these days.

If you go round the back of Penlieigh towards Brokerswood which bridge would it go under?

Yokel it's heading to/from Warmister so I think it will go through the Marsh - there's a good field to watch from on Tower Hill if it's heading to Warminster. On it's way to Trowbridge Dilton Station might be a good option - but I don't think you'll see it from Brokerswood

Brillaint - Dilton station is a walk away - I'm not an expert on timings - how would the westbury station times translate to dilton marsh

3/4 minutes? Maybe slightly longer with a steam train - make sure you stand well back though - I've seen one there before and it was pretty fierce!

its starting from the depot outside of Paddington at 0400 that morning,
and is due at the Redhill ( Surrey) reception sidings at 0030 on Sunday
its got a very long day first passenger pickup is at Haywards Heath about 0800

however to be on the safe side i would be at Westbury for about 1140

Dilton Marsh Halt is a good place to watch, but beware the curse of the car carriers and stone trains, on the opposite line

Have a copy of John Betjeman's poem with you, and I defy your upper lip not to quiver as Bittern pounds through
