Lots of discussion in the media today about hanging because the diaries of Harry Allen, who oversaw dozens of executions between 1941 and 1964 are coming up for sale:

I used to be really against hanging but have changed my mind over the years. As long as we can be 1000% sure they did it I now think some people just deserve to die when the murder they commit is pre-meditated.

Any thoughts ?

The thing is the sentence is given against the crime, not how sure you are that someone did it.  Therefore the likelihood that you will execute an innocent man/woman remains.
