Quote from 'Sally Beenwell' on t'other forum below. Never really knew Eric, so don't have a lot to say about it really. However, I'm sure some of you will have known him....
It is with a great deal of sadness indeed that I received the news that Eric Saunders sadly passed away last week. He died age 84 following surgical complications.
Born Derek Oscar Saunders in 1924 in India to a British military family his mother had a speech impediment which stopped her pronouncing a 'D'. Instead there would be a silence before the rest of the word came out hence he was 'Eric' to everyone .
Eric was being treated at a private hospital in Bristol for injuries received during WWII in which he served in both the RAF and the army . His injuries were sustained as the direct result of a charge led by Eric to free 50 British men being held captive. Not one British life was lost in the battle. Erics injuries however were to leave him semi-bed bound for some time and in great pain.
It is rumoured that Eric also spent some considerable time behind enemy lines during WWII involved in espionage work but any attempt to get him to expound on this always met the same reply ' Official Secrets Act old boy'. It is known however that amongst his many medals Eric was awarded the Victoria Cross, The DSO (third bar) and the Pacific Star.
Eric moved to the Westbury area after Maud his last wife of many years sadly died in a parachuting accident in 2000 in Germany while she was raising money for charity. He had been married 5 times and fathered 17 children with 52 grand children and 104 great grand children. He will be sadly missed.
His family have asked that his remains be taken back to the family estate in Essex for burial at City of London cemetery alongside his beloved wife Maudy.
Rest In Peace Eric Saunders 1924 - 2008

Serial fraudster? Muddled? Confused? Fictional? Or just a good old war hero who's been sadly overlooked?

I may be way off line here but it all sounds like a load of twaddle to me. Maybe he just wants a break from the other forum?

I never knew Eric personally and if he has died (I believe he was ill) Then my condolences go out to his family. I also believe he used to post on here as RTT (I'm 99.9% certain).
However, Sally Beenwell is a known Troll (who I also suspect is John Bunt on here) and is known to fabricate stories. I take with a pinch of salt his 'obituary' on Eric's life.
Eric may also be alive and well and as Soup says, might just be taking a break (and the p*ss).

I also believe he used to post on here as RTT (I'm 99.9% certain). Maybe the 0.1% could be right though because RTT isn't 80+ years old and has a child who was (at least until recently) at Westbury Leigh School.

Whichever way you look at it, it's sad he spent his last few days obsessing over Russell Hawker. Seems to be a growing trend these days.
